For our main holiday of 2014 we decided to take a two week road trip across the US – along Route 66. We would start of in Chicago on the 20th September and end up in Santa Barbara two weeks later.
We landed in Chicago and checked into our not so fancy hotel (hotel prices in Chicago were crazy!), and decided to take a stroll around the city and get some food. As it was out first night in Chicago we decided on some Deep Dish pizza from a family restaurant we came across… and it wasn’t very appetizing. We finished off our evening with a stroll around Grant Park and down onto the waterfront!
On our one full day in Chicago we decided the best way to view everything would be to get the hop on-hop off bus tour around the city. So we jumped on this from outside our hotel on Michigan Ave. and off we went! We saw the river, Trump tower, Navy Pier, Soldier Field and so much more. We stopped off at the Shedd Aquarium (we got some great photos of the Chicago Skyline from just outside) and two people leaving gave us their tickets so we spend a few hours wandering around inside before hopping back on the bus to go to Navy Pier. At Navy Pier we stopped for some lunch – there wasn’t much to do here unless you were going for a run, but it was a nice area to visit.
To finish off our time in Chicago we went to a great Thai restaurant close to our hotel, where we got some great cocktails. After which we went to Buddy Guy’s Legends to end the night.
